Madeline - Home & Healthy

Madeline & Shell came home on Tuesday. Here's another update from Shell:

We're home!! Madeline looks better every day and is completely back to her cute little self. It is so amazing to think she just had major surgery two weeks ago. She was so excited to see her sisters--she kept laughing in the airport when she first saw them. Since then, we've been catching up on life and taking it easy. The girls have had moments of being upset about what Madeline went through but since she is so clearly happy and healthy now they have quickly gotten past it. Madeline does look very different with her new head, but we're also quickly getting used to her new look. Dr. Hopper explained that even families with a child that has a cleft palate have trouble getting used to seeing their child's new face--you get so used to how they look that when it's fixed it doesn't seem like them for awhile. I spent some time late at night in Seattle organizing our digital photos and was amazed at how much more Madeline looks like the baby pictures of Caroline and Maureen.

I am looking forward to going back to work on Monday and getting back to our every day hectic routine. We've learned so much from this whole experience and are so grateful for all the support from friends and family.

We'll go back to Seattle in November for a quick checkup. She'll have another one in next year but the two-year checkup will be the most important one--that's when they will repeat the ct scan to see how the bone growth is going. We are very hopeful that she will not require any further surgery.
