Ohhhhh the Irony

As I drove south on Wornall, right before 74th Street I saw a "protest."

It was a "protest" because it was like three people in suits with one lame sign. And a dog.

So as I drive by I see the sign reads, "NO LEASHES! DOGS DESERVE TO BE FREE!" or some crap like that.

And... wait for it...

The dog lunges at my car, almost breaking free from its leash into the street.

Let's keep the leash if you can't keep it under control.

As hard as we try to educate people, karma works harder keeping them clueless.

The head of that group is an insane militant crazy lady, much like the dogs she wants free to poop and pee close to houses. Yes, I know that was redundant. But she really is insane AND crazy.

Here is what I don't get: if you have a fenced-in yard, don't you ALREADY have a dog park? KC is littered with such yards. Just invite some strangers over for a doggie play date.

Problem solved.

You're complaining that a dog "lunged" at your CAR? Seriously? I'm sure the little poochie wanted to eat your car. You're lucky the poor gas guzzler survived!

Isn't it funny how people humanize dogs. Cracks me up.

It's not "humanizing" dogs to let them be canines & do their natural canine behaviors, like running. It's actually the opposite. Ask any veterinarian, dog trainer or animal behaviorist whether letting dogs have the opportunity to run free is "humanizing" them and they probably will have a good laugh.

But who cares, this is the internets, where everybody has an opinion and critical thinking skills are scarce.

Yes, I am complaining about the dog lunging at my car because I did think it was going to get free and I was going to hit it. And no, I don't want to hit a dog in my car - my car doesn't need more damage done to it and I know what kind of damage hitting a dog can do to a car - http://erinintherealworld.blogspot.com/2006/09/repo.html

Oh and hello, it's ironic. They're protesting for the right to let their dogs free without leashes yet they can't maintain control of a dog already on a leash.

And I don't care about the dog park one way or the other, but I do think the arguments for it that I've heard are weak. If you're going to say it's needed because yards around here are too small for your dog to run in, then maybe you should have gotten a smaller dog, or even no dog at all. My friends with dogs bought small dogs that are appropriate for the size of house/yard and amount of activity they can devote to the dog.

I grew up on a farm - our dogs never had leashes, they ran around free all day and night. It makes it hard for me to want to get a dog that could potentially be kenneled for a large portion of the day or spend most of its life indoors. I find that cruel, especially to large dogs.

Personally, I would never get a dog if I lived somewhere that didn't have adequate room for the dog to exercise.

Agree with Erin about the irony. Had they let that dog follow its instincts and run free, they'd be scrapin' the thing off the asphalt, some hapless citizen would spend the rest of the afternoon trying to remove essence of Benji from their quarter panel, and that "protest" would've turned into a wake quicker than you can say Harlan Ellison.
